Upcoming Hotel Cutoff Dates

One reminder and one new notification regarding room reservations at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport:

While we’re thrilled to have filled our room block at the hotel, we do understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel your reservation at the hotel, or if you would like to make a modification to your arrival or departure dates:

  • December 27th is the last day you can cancel your reservation and get your deposit back. All deposits are nonrefundable if cancelled after December 27th.

    Of course, if you were unable to reserve a room at our host hotel before we sold out, it may be worth checking around or after the 28th to see if any rooms have opened up!

  • February 24th, 2013 is the last day you can make a modification to your existing reservation (changing your arrival or departure dates) without incurring a penalty. After the 24th, all modifications will require canceling your existing reservation and booking a new reservation.

POST MEETING SOCIAL

Happy Holidays to one and all! Don’t forget that our holiday celebration will be right after the December ConCom meeting, in one of the suites. We will have ham and sides and if you wish to bring anything else, feel free to do so, desserts are preferred.

This year, Santa will be making an appearance and you are welcome to take photos with him. Donations will be gratefully accepted for our charities.

We will also be having a gift exchange! If you wish to participate, please bring a wrapped gift, we have a $15.00 spending limit. Please, if the gift is appropriate for those 21 and up, mark it somehow so our younger guests will know. The rules will be similar to last year, open or steal when it is your turn, limit one steal per round and a total of three steals per item.

Please join us for a great time. Exact details will be announced at the meeting.

Author Guest of Honor: Catherine Asaro

NWC36 Author Guest of Honor Catherine Asaro

We are pleased to announce that our Author Guest of Honor for Norwescon 36 will be author, musician, and theoretical physicist Catherine Asaro!

Catherine Asaro is a bestselling novelist of more then twenty-five books, including near future thrillers, science fiction, and fantasy. She is also a dancer, a teacher, and a musician. Her novel The Quantum Rose and her novella “The Spacetime Pool” both won the coveted the Nebula® Award. Among her many other distinctions, she is a multiple winner of the Readers Choice Award from Analog magazine and a three time recipient of the RT BOOKClub Award for “Best Science Fiction Novel.” Her most recent books are the novel Carnelians (Baen/Simon & Schuster) and the anthology of her short fiction titled Aurora in Four Voices, which is available from ISFiC Press in hardcover. All of her titles are available in audio form and her multiple award-winning novellas “The City of Cries” and “The Spacetime Pool” are available as eBooks. Her most recent eBooks are the Lightning Strike duology, based on the novel Catch the Lightning and available on Kindle, Nook, and ePub.

Catherine has two music CDs out and she is currently working on her third. Her first CD, Diamond Star, is the soundtrack for her novel of the same name, performed with the rock band Point Valid. She appears as a vocalist at cons, clubs, and other venues in the US and abroad, including as the Guest of Honor at the Denmark and New Zealand National Science Fiction Conventions. She performs selections from her work in a multimedia project that mixes literature, dance, and music, with Greg Adams as her accompanist. She is also a theoretical physicist with a PhD in Chemical Physics from Harvard, and teaches part time in the physics department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
