Panel, panelist, and Game Master applications are open!
Happy summer! The annual Norwescon Volunteer Appreciation Picnic went off gangbusters last weekend — you can see photos of the picnic here — and preparations for Norwescon 36 are already well underway!
Gaming
Both open and scheduled gaming will be returning for Norwescon 36, and we’re looking for Game Masters to run sessions during scheduled gaming! Old or new, card, figurine, RPG, serious, silly, horrific, mysterious…. Just use the GM Registration Form, give us the details, and we’ll start building the schedule.
Gaming is also looking for volunteers to help out in the scheduled gaming room throughout the convention. We open gaming early on day one and run all four days, so we have lots of volunteer opportunities. Just drop us a line to let us know you’re interested!
Panels and Panelists
Our Programming department is also currently accepting applications for panelists and ideas for panels. Please read over our Becoming a Panelist page, then drop us a line through the contact link at the bottom to introduce yourself, tell us about your areas of interest, and apply for the panelist pool!
That’s all for now. Look for an announcement of concom meeting dates within the next couple weeks!
SF (and Norwescon) Big in the Northwest
Congratulations to ConCom member Katrina Marier, who was recently interviewed for a Seattle Times article about fandom in the Pacific Northwest! Norwescon was mentioned, as was her husband and former chair Shawn, along with other PNW icons such as Westercon 65, Clarion West, and the EMP.
[Katrina] Marier is the editor of Westwind, the magazine of the Northwest Science Fiction Society. Shawn just finished a multiyear stint as chair of the Northwest’s largest science-fiction convention, Norwescon….
Thousands were at the annual Norwescon here in April….
Fandom is very tolerant of differences, she said. At a convention you’ll see someone in a Star Trek uniform walking down the hallway with ladies in ball gowns, going to discuss interstellar travel.
“Some you’ll like and some not. Some you’ll agree with and some not,” she said. “You all can occupy the same space for the course of a weekend. That is very important, and we could use a lot more of that in our national discourse.”
Norwescon 36 Membership Status Email
On Monday, June 25, 2012, we sent an email from publications@norwescon.org regarding a price glitch. This email was sent to individuals who pre-registered for Norwescon 36 (2013) at Norwescon 35. The email is legitimate. Please follow the instructions provided.
Thank you for your patience,
Felice Nightengale, Publications and Promotions Director, Norwescon 36
Introducing the Norwescon 36 Executive Team
Hello Norwescon Concom,
As Chair and Vice Chair, Brad and I would like to announce and welcome the Norwescon 36 Executive Team. We have finished our interviews and have hired an excellent team of execs. Norwescon 36 has many changes this year with the new registration system and 501c3 and this team is definitely up to them. Please welcome them and make them feel at home in their new positions. We are now looking to filling out our staff and would love to hear from you about the positions you are interested in for NWC36.
We all look forward to seeing you at the volunteer picnic!
Thank you,
Peggy Stewart
