Convention Planning Has Begun: Send Us Your Ideas!

Meetup Applications are open! Do you love a fandom and want to talk to others with similar interests? Are you a member of a club that would like to have a meetup at Norwescon? Do you play a game like Pokemon Go and want more friends? Whatever your meetup type, we have the space for you. Meetups are held in the comfortable and casual atmosphere of the Presidential Suite. If you have any questions, please email us.

Have an idea for a panel? Let Programming know NOW as planning has officially begun and we don’t want to miss anything cool! We want to make sure our program is as engaging to our members as possible, and we will gladly consider your suggestions as we work with our pros and panelists to craft our programming each year.

Norwescon is also looking for panelists! If you are interested, let us know in detail who you are, your area of expertise, and why you would be a great fit for us. Programming can’t do what it does without our fabulous panelists. Please fill out our panelist application form to be considered for this coming year. Even if you have been a pro before, please fill out the form anyway!

Art Show Applications Are Open

The Norwescon 47 art show is now accepting applications from artists, and we would love to hear from you. Our goal is to provide a venue that features both well-known and up-and-coming artists who create fantasy and science fiction–themed artwork of all types. Come be a part of our convention community! Please visit our Artist Registration page to apply to be in the Norwescon 47 art show.

Norwescon’s Bibliophiles Update

Norwescon’s official year-round book club Norwescon’s Bibliophiles focuses on science fiction and fantasy books selected throughout the year by the participants. Feel free to join us for some Norwescon camaraderie and connection all year long. Once announced in January, we’ll read a selection of the Philip K. Dick nominees. In late spring we often read some of the Hugo nominees. The club has a Facebook page and monthly meetings. Most of the meetings are virtual, but there is an in-person meeting during Norwescon as well as two or three additional in-person meetings throughout the year.

Upcoming book discussions include:

  • October 21 – Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes. A sci-fi horror novel just in time for Halloween.
  • November 18 – Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Mad Max if Max were C-3PO.
  • December 16 – The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson. A new take on Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court? We’ll find out.

Join us on Facebook

Note: Norwescon’s official book club has new leadership. Last month in an elegant ceremony Kevin Black passed the official book club scepter to Jon Lavinder and Crystal Lloyd, trusting them to coordinate Norwescon’s official year-round book club, Norwescon’s Bibliophiles.

Call for Assistance: Website Accessibility Review

Hello ConCom! In cooperation with our member services team’s work on ensuring our physical spaces are accessible for our disabled members, our publications and website teams are working on ensuring that our online publications, including our website, email newsletters, and social media posts, are properly set up for full accessibility, including compatibility with assistive technology software and hardware.

We’d like to know: If you are an assistive technology user, would you be willing to volunteer some time to go through our website and let us know if you encounter any difficulties or incompatibilities, or if you find any areas that have escaped our notice and could use improvement? If you do not use assistive technology but know someone who does, might they be willing to assist with this effort?

And of course, even if you don’t have the time, energy, or spoons to assist, if you are an assistive technology user who ever does encounter any difficulties with our website or other publications, we welcome comments at either website@norwescon.org or accessibility@norwescon.org.
